Large City’s Department of Buildings Paperless Permit Process – Electronic Plan Review

Project Description

A major city’s Department of Buildings desired an Electronic Plan Review solution that would integrate seamlessly with their existing permit system. SDI’s previous experience with streamlining the Department of Buildings’ permitting process provided the SDI Team with insight into selecting the best solution to meet the city’s requirements. SDI is implementing the ProjectDox system from Avolve Software, which will support the City’s Developer Services (DS) and Standard Plan Review (SPR) programs. It will also assist the city In managing construction projects and serve as an online repository for existing plans.

Project Goals

The overall objective is to enable clients of both the DS and SPR programs to effectively submit permit applications and drawings for review. Other goals for the system include:

  • Providing a means for the Department to effectively manage all plans electronically, using Web technology
  • Seamless integrating with the city’s Hansen Permitting System
  • Extending the process to include other city review departments as well as Consultant Reviewers
  • Supporting electronic plan submittal, reviewing automated notification of issues and resolution, and final approved plan archival
  • Providing reports on permit and code review progress

Project Results

The project is currently in process, with the Avolve software application installed and functioning and department end users being trained. Deployment in summer 2012.
