First Response Command Plans for City Fire Department

Project Description
SDI was contracted by the Fire Department to develop First Response Command Plans for the high-rise buildings over 45 stories. The purpose of First Response Command Plans is to provide first responders with key building information so that they can make quick decisions in fighting fires and saving lives. First Response Command Plans include:

  • Building contact and highlighting building-specific critical information (i.e. fire control panel location)
  • General building system description (elevator, Stairwells, Sprinkler Risers, Smoke Control Systems, Mechanical Systems/Overrides, Hazmat Locations)
  • Entry level/lobby floor plan (siamese connections, active/inactive elevators, stairs, fire control panel locations)
  • Elevator/Stair Run Diagram (crossovers and unique floor layouts, vanity stairwells, active/inactive elevators/stairwells)
  • Individuals Requiring Assistance listing (disability type, location)
  • Typical floor plan (critical emergency information by floor)
  • Three-block radius Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Staging Map (hydrant locations, adjacent building footprints, schools/elderly housing)

Goals

The Fire Department required First Response Command Plans for the city's high-profile high-rise buildings.

Solution/Services

SDI gathered information across multiple departments and across the building community, providing:

  • Tailored data standards based on Fire Department specifications
  • Communication with participating buildings and associations
  • Field collection of building data by the SDI Team
  • Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) of building information
  • First Response Command Plans book production, distribution, and data storage
  • Maintenance and support for up-to-date building data

Result

SDI’s First Response Command Plans are located at the security desks of the 51 tallest buildings in the city and electronically at the Fire Department.
